January 2026 Meeting
Jerry Stebbins from Bethany College will be our speaker this month. He started a competitive fly fishing club at the school.
Jerry Stebbins bio:
Work at Bethany College and Serve as the Vice President of Student Life and Dean of Students...that is my official title buy the College students know me as "that guy that does the fly fishing". I have been an avid fly fisherman for about the last 30 years. I had always been a fisherman but got into late in life (early thirties).
While working at Washington and Jefferson College I made friends with a faculty member there with the same interests and we were approved for to teach a PE course in lifetime fitness area or Introduction to Fly Fishing. We taught that class together for about 10 years before I became the Dean of Students at Bethany College in WV.
I was approved to teach the course at Bethany and have taught it here since the 2015. Around 2020 I added a second class "Intro to Steelhead Fly Fishing".
Last Year in March, My President asked if I would be interested in creating an expanded Fly Fishing Club and Competition Team. I began recruiting students in April. In our first semester, I recruited approx.. 15 students who were very interested. The team now consists of 4 fly fisherman and we are signed up for our first competitions in February in NC.
